This time last year we were a little more than a week away from our wedding. Now, Heather and I are back in Louisville for another wedding. Her brother Brandon is getting married tomorrow. Their wedding is actually going to be at the same place we got married, so for us it’s been a great opportunity to relive our big day from last year.Even though all I really had to say was two words..”I do,” it was a pretty chaotic weekend. I wouldn’t have changed a thing, but this wedding gives me a chance to smile and watch from the sidelines. I can’t wait. Of course tonight’s the rehearsal dinner, and there’s a lot to do for the wedding party. Family and friends have come into town for the big event and the fun’s already begun. Luckily the weather’s been perfect and it looks like they’re going to have a similarly beautiful day. Heather and I won’t be hounded by a photographer everywhere we go this year, but I’m sure she’ll take lots of pictures. I’ll post some of them here after the big event.
I’d like to thank everyone who made it to the wedding on Saturday, and everyone who’s been checking this site. I know I’m biased, but I believe this was the greatest wedding of all time.My wife and I got back to San Diego late last night and are leaving for the airport in a few minutes to begin our honeymoon. Of course, I woke up at 5, thrilled that the honeymoon’s about to begin, and still a little surprised to see a ring on my finger.I still feel like I’m floating on a cloud, and that has nothing to do with all the time I’ve spent in an airplane. Our wedding day was fantastic, from Heather’s dress, to the perfect weather, and all the guests. Even now I still can’t believe that day. Thank you all for being a part of it.
The wedding is now 8 days away. I’m not working anymore, and today Heather’s finishing up her last day with the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Let the fun begin!
Tomorrow we’re flying out to visit my Grandma in Pennsylvania who won’t be able to make the wedding. Then we’re flying into Louisville on Monday. After waiting so long it seems amazing that next weekend we’ll get to celebrate along with so many of our friends and family.
After the wedding we’re flying back to San Diego, then leaving the following morning for 5 nights in Hawaii. We’ll be honeymooning in Maui. The next two weeks are going to be great.
Once you’ve got those tickets booked and you’ve reserved your room you may wonder what you’ll get to see in Louisville. Heather has put together a guide for you. You can download the .pdf or look through the list and get excited. It’s a great time of year to visit. We can’t wait to see you all.
The guide is also linked from the Louisville page we just added to the site. Those of you from the Ville, feel free to add places or recommendations in the comments section.
Those of you staying at the Hyatt will be right next to the Visitor’s center for plenty of maps and good advice on day trips.
Heather’s bachelorette party kicks off this weekend. We’re looking forward to seeing her friends. They’ll be at our house Friday for dinner, then staying in a beach house Friday - Sun.
I’m clearing out of town. My best man and I are driving up to the USC home opener on Saturday.
Are you kidding me? 76 more days? Our wedding date is just rushing up at us. I can’t wait. I remember when there were 340 days until the big day.
We’ve signed all our contracts, picked out the menu, the DJ, photographer, and are anxiously waiting to see them taking care of all our guests.
Heather’s dress is hanging in our closet. Of course I haven’t seen it, but she tells me it’s purple with big blue bows. Sounds pretty. Maybe I should get a powder blue tuxedo with purple vest to match…
We’re both working pretty hard this summer. My business is really taking off. I’m working long days to keep my clients happy and am teaching a class at SDSU. Heather’s taking summer school courses and is a little over a week from her finals. She’s upstairs studying right now, so I’ll tell you some of her good news. She’s starting a new job in a few weeks. She’ll be teaching 6,7, and 8th graders at a Catholic school just down the road from us. Lucky girl won’t even have to get on the freeway to go to work.
It was a year ago today that I surprised Heather by asking her to marry me.
Did I say surprised? More like shocked. Just a week earlier, I told Heather that I wasn’t sure… marriage is a big step, and so on. But the truth was I wanted to marry her very early in our relationship. I was just hoping the proposal was a big surprise. I told her mother months before, and had already called her daddy to ask permission. I felt like I had told seemingly everyone what I was going to do. (I even blogged it before we left for our trip.) I just wanted the moment to be a surprise.
This time last year, we were on a trip to Yosemite with our friends Sarah and Drew. We planned on backpacking for three days. I have all these great pictures of Heather carrying a huge pack, looking exhausted (but beautiful) on our ten mile hike. (I won’t put them up because I hope to be with Heather for a long time, and am sure pictures of her sweating and flushed is exactly what she wants on our wedding website.)
I spent June 21, 2006 planning just how I was going to propose, and laughing, knowing how unexpected it would be. Finally the moment came, and on the afternoon of the second day as we were standing on top of El Capitan, I popped the question. Here’s a picture of us, just moments after.
I asked Heather to marry me, and she said yes. One year ago today. What an amazing view and what a happy moment. Probably the single greatest minute of my life. Here’s a video that we shot while we were up there.
We just spent a week in KY doing a little, well actually, a lot of wedding planning. We met with caterers, photographers, DJs, and I got a dress. Not only did we ‘take care of business’, but we got to have a some fun too! Here are some pictures from the shower that my aunts Mar and Minnie threw for us.
Today we added a page with information about the hotel rooms we’ve reserved. It’s a great location. The 4th Street Live area of Downtown has some of the best restaurants, bars, and shops in the city and is really a cool part of Louisville.
The link to Hotels has all the hotel information and a map that shows where the hotel is, the airport, and the Peterson-Dumesnil House where we’ll be getting married.
Heather and I both love listening to music and we’ve had a lot of fun coming up with the songs that we want to play at our reception. I won’t share the complete list with you here… you’ll have to come to the party to hear all our favorites, but this John Legend song captures the way I feel with my bride to be. There have been a couple bad days along the way, but the more I get to know her, the happier I am to be sharing my life with her.
This Wednesday, we’ll be going to the John Legend concert. I can’t wait to hear it performed live.
